Welcome to the Altar Guild
On this page you will find a brief overview of the responsibilities of the Altar Guild, as well as a contact form to get started!
Goal of the Altar Guild
The Altar Guild serves God and the local parish by preparing and maintaining the altar and worship space for liturgical services. In the Anglican tradition, the Altar Guild's work is considered a ministry of hospitality and reverence, ensuring that the church is ready for worship in a way that glorifies God and helps the congregation enter into sacred space.

General Expectations of the Altar Guild
The Altar Guild prepares the worship space by setting up for the Eucharist, maintaining sacred vessels and linens, and adjusting paraments and vestments for the liturgical seasons. They ensure the altar remains clean and reverent while assisting clergy in preparing for services, offering their work as a quiet act of devotion.
Thursday/Sunday Morning
Altar Guild members serve one week per month. Historically, members prepare the worship space partially on Thursday (30 mins) and partially on Sunday (30 mins). Cleaning up after the Modern service is performed by a different Altar Guild member.
Seasonal Worship Services
Occasionally, special services (Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday, weddings, funerals, etc.) require the Altar Guild to prepare the worship space on other days of the week.
