Seeing Jesus as He Truly Is: Luke 9:28-36

Friday: Seeing Jesus as He Truly Is
Scripture: Luke 9:28-36

Do We See Jesus Clearly?
We often make Jesus into a version of what we want Him to be—perhaps a wise teacher, a kind friend, or a helper in times of need. But is that the full picture? If we are to follow Jesus, we must see Him as He truly is, not as we imagine Him to be.

The Transfiguration was a moment of revelation. Jesus took Peter, James, and John up a mountain, and suddenly His appearance changed—His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became dazzling white. Moses and Elijah appeared, representing the Law and the Prophets, and a voice from heaven declared, “This is my Son, my Chosen One; listen to Him!” (v. 35). The disciples had followed Jesus for some time, but now they glimpsed His divine glory.

This moment was both a confirmation and a preparation. It confirmed Jesus’ identity as the Son of God, but it also prepared the disciples for what was coming—His suffering and death. The One who shone in glory would soon be crucified. But His suffering was not a contradiction of His glory—it was the way He would redeem the world.

Following the Real Jesus
Are you following the real Jesus or a version of Him that fits your preferences? The Transfiguration reminds us that Jesus is not just a wise teacher or a moral example—He is the glorious Son of God, worthy of our full devotion.

This means trusting Him even when His path leads to suffering. Like the disciples, we may struggle to understand why God allows hardship. But when we see Jesus for who He is, we can trust that His plan is good. This week, reflect on your view of Christ. Are you truly listening to Him?

Transform Our Heart Through Prayer
Lord, open my eyes to see You as You truly are. Let me not shape You into my own image, but let me follow You as You have revealed Yourself. Help me trust You even when I don’t understand Your ways. Holy Spirit, deepen my faith and lead me to worship Christ in all His glory. Amen.
