Called by God in the Midst of Weakness
Called by God in the Midst of Weakness
Reading: Exodus 3:1-15
Exposition: Feeling Inadequate for God’s Calling
Have you ever felt inadequate for the tasks before you? Maybe you sense God calling you to something greater, but doubt creeps in: “I’m not qualified,” “I’m not strong enough,” “I’m not the right person.” Moses knew this struggle well. In Exodus 3, he encounters God in the burning bush and is called to lead Israel out of Egypt. Instead of confidence, Moses responds with hesitation. He is keenly aware of his own weaknesses, but God’s answer is profound: “I will be with you.”
God does not choose Moses because of his strength but because of His own power and presence. This encounter reveals a key truth—God’s call is not based on our ability, but on His sufficiency. He identifies Himself as “I AM,” the eternal, unchanging One who equips those He calls. Ultimately, Jesus is the greater Moses who delivers us from bondage, not to Pharaoh, but to sin and death. Through Him, we are empowered to fulfill God’s call on our lives.
Application: Trusting God’s Power Over Our Weakness
When we feel inadequate, we must remember that God’s strength is made perfect in our weakness. Rather than focusing on our shortcomings, we should focus on His presence. Trusting in God’s call means stepping forward even when we feel unprepared, knowing that He goes before us. Seeking His guidance through prayer, immersing ourselves in His Word, and surrounding ourselves with a supportive community will strengthen our faith as we follow His lead.
Transform Our Heart Through Prayer
Lord, when I feel unworthy or unqualified, remind me that You are the one who strengthens and equips me. Help me to trust in Your presence rather than my abilities. Fill me with faith to answer Your call and confidence in Your power. Holy Spirit, guide me in the work You have set before me. Amen.
