The Gift of the Holy Spirit

Questions 69-72

Many Christians struggle to live the Christian life in their own strength, often feeling frustrated and defeated. But Jesus promised that we would not be left alone. The Holy Spirit is given to us as our Helper, empowering us to live in obedience and bear witness to Christ.

The catechism teaches that the Holy Spirit is God, the third Person of the Trinity, who indwells believers and enables us to grow in faith, holiness, and love (John 14:16-17; Acts 1:8). Through Him, we are made alive in Christ and transformed from within (Romans 8:9-11; Galatians 5:22-23). The Spirit leads us, convicts us of sin, comforts us in trials, and equips us for service (John 16:7-15; 1 Corinthians 12:4-11).

If you feel powerless in your faith, take heart: the Christian life is not meant to be lived in your own strength. Explore questions 69-72 in the catechism to deepen your understanding of the Holy Spirit’s role in your life.

  • Recognize the Holy Spirit as God’s gift, given to empower and guide you.
  • Yield to the Spirit’s work, allowing Him to shape your character and equip you for service.

Transform Our Heart Through Prayer
Holy Spirit, I welcome You into my life. Fill me with Your presence, guide me in truth, and empower me to live for Christ. Transform my heart and make me more like Jesus. Amen.
