Seeking God in the Midst of Fear: Psalm 27:8-16

Tuesday of the Second Week in Lent
Reading: Psalm 27:8-16

The Fear of Abandonment
Fear of abandonment is something many people struggle with. Whether it’s being left by friends, family, or feeling distant from God, the loneliness that follows can be overwhelming. Psalm 27 speaks directly to this fear, calling us to seek God’s face and trust in His goodness even when everything around us seems uncertain.

Psalm 27 is a psalm of confidence, written by David, who had many reasons to feel abandoned. He was pursued by enemies, betrayed by those close to him, and often found himself hiding for his life. Yet, in the midst of uncertainty, he declares: “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?” (v. 1). His faith was not in his circumstances but in God’s presence. The psalmist reminds us that even if earthly relationships fail, God will never forsake us.

Trusting in God’s Presence
When fear of abandonment creeps in, we must remind ourselves of God’s unchanging nature. He does not leave us as people do. Seeking His presence through prayer and worship strengthens our faith in His nearness. When we feel alone, reading Scripture and meditating on His promises helps realign our hearts to His truth. We should also look for ways to build community, reaching out to other believers who can encourage and remind us of God’s faithfulness.

Transform Our Heart Through Prayer
Lord, when I feel alone, help me to seek Your face. Remind me that You are always with me, even when others fail me. Strengthen my trust in Your presence and lead me to find community among Your people. Holy Spirit, fill my heart with the assurance of Your love. Amen.
