Monday of Easter Week 2 – Devotion

Text: Acts 5:12–20

We live in an age of skepticism. People are quick to question authority, miracles, and anything that hints at the supernatural. Many of us—even those who believe in Jesus—sometimes wonder if God still acts in power today. Has He gone silent? Is the world now too cynical, too complex for signs and wonders?

Acts 5 takes us back to the very early days of the Church, just after Pentecost. The apostles are healing the sick, casting out demons, and preaching boldly in the name of Jesus. Crowds are gathering. Even Peter’s shadow brings healing. But this isn’t spectacle—it’s a signpost. These miracles aren’t just displays of raw power; they are evidence that the risen Christ is still at work through His Body, the Church. The same Jesus who walked the streets of Galilee now walks, through His Spirit, in the hearts and hands of His people. The religious leaders, threatened by this authority, throw the apostles into prison. But the Lord sends an angel to open the doors—literally. The Word of Life cannot be bound.
What does this mean for us? It means God has not changed. He still works through His people, not always with dramatic signs, but always with purpose. Healing may come through prayer or through medicine. Deliverance may happen in an instant or over years of faithful community support. The power of the risen Christ still flows into a world full of suffering. We are invited to be part of it—not because we’re strong, but because Jesus is alive and sends us out.

So, ask boldly. Pray for healing—yours and others’. Step into hard places where people are hurting. Open your mouth to speak the name of Jesus, even when it’s uncomfortable. Expect God to act—not to impress, but to restore. Remember, it’s not about your adequacy. It’s about the risen Jesus, who opens prison doors and sends ordinary people to share extraordinary life.

Transform Our Hearts Through Prayer

Risen Lord, You are still moving. Help us not to live as practical atheists—believing in You but expecting nothing. Fill us with faith that You are near and working. Holy Spirit, embolden us to speak and serve in Your name. Open our eyes to the people who need Your healing, and use us to bring it, however You choose. Give us courage to step out in grace. Amen.
